IEK GROUP was recognized as one of the winners of the annual "Best ESG Projects of Russia" Program. The company became a laureate in the "Decent Work and Economic Growth. Quality Jobs" category with the "Human Behavior" project.
The project was implemented at the IEK GROUP production site in Yasnogorsk, Tula Region, with the aim of achieving zero industrial injuries.
IEK GROUP proceeded from the fact that even with thorough knowledge of safety instructions, a person can still make a mistake and get injured. Preconditions for this are his state (haste, fatigue, disappointment, overconfidence), influence of external factors (behavioral culture accepted in the team), and awareness.
Within the framework of the project, a pre-task review was conducted with workers. The goal — to determine whether they are in any of the indicated states and whether there are preconditions for committing such errors as working "without looking," "on autopilot," "in the line of fire" (when an employee consciously enters a dangerous zone, not paying attention to risks and relying on luck).
Such a review helps set workers up for task execution, determine goals and difficulties of the work, and consequently, prevent an incident.
"While complying with legislative requirements and protective measures, it is important to consider such a factor as the influence of a person's state on their fulfillment. The 'Human Behavior' project helps identify triggers, or 'starting points,' that each production employee encounters at work (be it a new task, a new product, complex equipment, transportation, repair, change in the technological process), which can force ignoring safety requirements. It is important to identify them together with the employee and teach to react correctly according to the STOP criterion: 'stop, think, ask for help, respond.' This task is primarily for the employee: he must not only name these dangerous states but, most importantly, remember them," comments Oleg Ilyin, Deputy General Director of IEK GROUP for Production.
The "Best ESG Projects of Russia" award is given to companies that meet the criteria and goals of sustainable development. This year, 678 applications from different companies were received for participation in the program. 61 companies were recognized as winners; IEK GROUP won in two nominations at once: besides the "Decent Work and Economic Growth. Quality Jobs" category, it was noted in the "Quality Education. University-Company Cooperation" category.
